Arts students have it way too easy. And they still complain about how tough their courses are.
The discussion boards for the distance ed psych course had people talking about the test that we had yesterday, and I couldn't help but laugh. People who contributed were like "It was sooooooooo hard and I studied for like ever and felt like so prepared! But then I like bombed it totally!" "OMG ya I only got 75 and studied really hard too!" "OMG 75 is such a good mark!" etc.

I studied for a little over an hour and got 95. I am an engineering student who has never had to read this much of a textbook in so short a time period. I have never had to take a multiple choice test in this style before. AND I BEAT Y'ALL.

Just goes to show that engineers truly are better than any artsy.

I just spent 2 hours cleaning the bathroom that hadn't been properly cleaned since the end of September (when I last had to do it). You can never really tell how dirty something is until you give it a good cleaning. Then it's like, 'How did I ever USE that bathroom in that state?' Useless suitemates who can't do anything...

I miss my boy :( I miss not being able to come home and talk to him after school, and not being able to give him a hug good night. There's hardly any time we get to spend together :( Today after the physics tutorial/quiz was the first time I really felt it, when I couldn't go back to him and just sit and do nothing for a while...

Also, resumes suck.

Soooooooo I guess I should start at my last entry :P

I did get to go play on the swings and it was TONS of fun. It was getting a bit chilly outside, but nothing unbearable. There was even a few little kids who came along and wanted to play but stopped once they saw us ;)

Harry Potter --- AMAZING! It was such a good movie, it was almost worth the transportation problems to get to it. We had originally planned to see the midnight showing and preordered tickets, but couldn't because the bus we needed didn't show up. Luckily the tickets could be switched to the next day :) Then on Friday, the bus we were on wasn't the one that we wanted, but it still got us to the right place... and then the transfer bus didn't show up. So over those 2 days we probably spent an hour in the freezing cold waiting for buses! But it really was worth it, although the film was incomparable to the books it was still a great film. The beginning wasn't very good I found, it was very jumpy and there was so many good things in that part of the book. The only other scene I thought was bad was the one after the ball with the 3 of them, it was very poorly done and a bit disjointed. One of the best parts was probably in the graveyard with Voldemort; it was so sad seeing Harry bring Cedric back afterwards :( My only other real complaint is that Fleur wasn't pretty enough.

Skipping forward about a month, I also saw Chronicles of Narnia! That was just wow, and so magical! I really should have been studying for CS at that point, but I just really needed break, not just from studying but to get my mind of other things too. Let's just say that Thursday night I found out a bit too many things at once :\

While most of the engineers were out partying and drinking Friday night, me and the boy spent some time together and did one of the things we do best - shopping and spaghetti :) Our spaghetti is truly an amazing dish, and even though we've only made it 3 times (including Friday) it just gets better each time. This time we even managed to make some good pasta; having a big enough pot and enough water really helps ;)

There's probably a bunch of different fun things that happened in there, but nothing's sticking out too much in my mind at the moment. Now exams are done, and I have two weeks of freedom from MC and the engineering buildings :P The past three months have just been a lot of getting used to what life's going to be like for the next five years, and I think now I know better what I have to do to get by. If I can, I'm definitely going to try and find more time for journals/writing and such, because I just miss doing it. I miss the whole website thing too, but I don't even have a clue what I want to do with it any more. I need time to organize my thoughts about so many different things, and there's just not enough of it. I even have this two weeks holiday planned with things I want to get done.

This last month has just been... busy. So much has gone on, so much that I'd want to write about. One week until exams are over, then I can say everything.

I wish Vaughn didn't have to go home this weekend so we could have went and played on the swings after I got home :( Hopefully it will be nice like this afternoon sometime this weekend. Swings are fun and the outside is good sometimes, or so I'm told.

I passed physics midterm! w00t. Physics is so hard :(

I have almost a month of linear algebra to catch up on. Good thing it isn't difficult.

Thanks to Imprint I found out that Proof is playing a Princess Cinemas. Pro: it is closer than Galaxy. Con: it is not as nice as Galaxy.

Harry Potter comes out very very soon. I'm hoping that there's a midnight showing somewhere in the area. The only potential problem is that the Engineering Awards Dinner is on that same night, and will go to maybe 10:30ish, I haven't decided if I want to go to it yet though. Pro: Free food. Con: might not be that exciting.

[This is in response to the 'friendly reminders' posted on the fridge by my roommates. Names are never specifically mentioned but it is so totally obvious it is directed at me.]

Some rules are meant to be broken, not by the person they are told to, but by the people who made them. If I don't start getting more sleep, here's some things that will change:

1. People (ie Vaughn) are allowed in my room at whichever time pleases them. This includes after my imposed quiet hours of 11 PM. [They set 11, but have been up talking and being loud after that.] Yes, that does imply "sleepover".

2. The door will be slammed like it's nobody's business. That's how we do it back home, that's how it will be done here as well. There are certain comforts a person just can't leave behind.

3. The phrases "Eww" and "Oh my God" or other such sayings that 12 year old girls use when talking about penises are forever banned from this suite. (except if I use them in reference to Vaughn)

Honestly, we're in university now, and I think it's time to grow up and learn about the real world, that real world that isn't all about you.

--The 3rd, yes THIRD person in the suite.

A certain someone had better clean the bathroom this weekend or I'm going to be uber pissed off. You'd swear they liked living in filth or something.

Does Harry Potter get laid?

8:30 in the morning shouldn't have been invented. Especially with something as boring as CS133.

But peppermint hot chocolate makes everything better :D Even though it was cold and windy, it felt so great walking outside with it. It felt like fall! How surprising ;)

PS my cooking with real meat turned out all right. It was just a mix of a whole bunch of stuff and it tasted quite good.

1. I am sick.

2. I couldn't get my braces off this weekend because of a miscommunication between surgeon and orthodontist. This makes me sad.

3. I now have to wait until this Saturday or later to get them off.

4. If I don't get them off within the next month, I am going to multi-tool/Jedi mind trick them off.

5. I am going to cook tonight with real meat. We'll see how this turns out.

6. I have to leave in half an hour. I want to sleep instead.

I have discovered one of the best drinks ever. It's called Peppermint Hot Chocolate. Venture to your favourite coffee place and ask for it; if it's not a specific menu item, then ask for hot chocolate with a peppermint tea bag. You do have to pay for both the chocolate and the tea, but it is so worth it.

This weekend I get to go home to get my braces off! Yay! Four years of torture will finally be over. My mum is coming late afternoon to pick me up, and I'm hoping to come back sometime Saturday evening. I really don't want to be at home more than I have to, plus I have some homework that needs to get done and I don't plan on lugging those heavy textbooks home with me. I'll take the one that I need to get some reading done in, but that's it. I extend my efforts no further.

I somehow managed to get my MATH135 assignment done and handed in on time. I woke up Wednesday morning at 8 AM, the assignment was due in the drop box by 830-ish. By some small miracle I was ready to go in 10 minutes (although I had nothing to eat nor did I brush my teeth) and by 820 was roaming the halls of the 4th floor trying to find the tutorial centre. For some reason, I thought that it was on the opposite side of the building from where I usually enter. In fact, it's basically right beside the door where I usually enter, which I found out after about 5 minutes of searching. I got it handed in though, hopefully on time (which I assume it was, as there was another softie there at the same time I was). There were some people there asking if anyone had a stapler on them. Luckily, I had my handy-dandy Software Engineering mini ultra-portable stapler with me to save the day of the hopeless mathies.

My boyfriend in nanotech has the coolest physics textbook ever. The 'title pages' of the Chapters have Stars Wars example pictures on them! And it all relates to the topic at hand too, it's amazing. I am so jealous and want to steal it off him. You know you're a nerd when...

It's so weird walking in Waterloo. All down University Ave there's big groups of people. Early in the evening they're generally just hanging around or walking somewhere. Come 1AM they are all hanging around drunk/stoned or walking around drunk/stoned. Once you get further down King St there's no one. I wouldn't know about any other areas yet as I have not ventured there since there is, well, nothing to do there.

I finally got my textbooks Thursday :D And read some, and worked some, and it's all good! Finished the homework for one class, so I should be ready for a quiz Tues, the next thing on my list is an assignment for Wed which I want to get done by Tues so that I don't have to get up early to hand it in. As I may not go to my lab Wednesday, I haven't decided whether I want to or not yet. Maybe I will just so that I don't have to find another time to do it or something. meh.

So. In the simplest terms, going to class sucks. That's all I'm going to say. I think Physics and calc are going to be the toughest courses this term, but once I actually open the books and read to figure out what's going on it should be ok. I guess.

Now I have food and a toaster oven in here! I can finally have toast and Nutella in the morning. I've missed my Nutella :) I also got through my first day of Doing Laundry. I wish that you could choose how long you wanted the dryer to go instead of having it run for an hour :\ I made pancakes for some people this morning too, and they were so yummy. There's even leftovers that I can reheat and eat some time ;)

It's disappointing that Proof isn't being shown in Canada. It sounds like it might be good, plus, the girl's name is Catherine! We wanted to go see it last night but since it isn't in theatres here we obviously couldn't, so it was Wedding Crashers instead (although we were aiming for The Constant Gardener, but didn't quite make it to the theatre in good time).

I have no idea when the last time I wrote in here was. I think it was Thursday before ELPE so I'll start from there.

ELPE was extremely easy. The hardest part was finding my way to PAC and back again afterward. On my way back I stopped in at William's and got myself an iced cappuccino. While I was walking up the street some CTV guy asked me if I would answer a question - whether or not I thought that Canada would be prepared for a large natural disaster like the one that happened in the States just recently. I stuttered out some kind of answer and continued happily on my way. By the way, that was also harder than ELPE. I figure this gives a pretty good reasoning on how easy this thing actually was.

Friday evening was tons of fun. First was the SE mystery dinner, and while I didn't really pay much attention to the mystery part, the dinner part was all right - pizza is never a bad thing. And I got some tunes right in the Name That Tune corner! Search and Rescue afterward was probably one of the best events of the week. I got to wrap someone up in toilet paper and make them into a mascot. His name was Super Softie, and he had a cape and everything! There was even a sign that said "will code 4 food" and he had a paper cup with rocks and McDonald's coupons in. I'm not sure where that idea came from exactly but it was awesome. I also got to make a complete fool of myself. Apparently, I cannot do ballet or sing Oh Canada very good while lying on the ground. But I can cheer! Kind of! Oh yes!

Saturday I went and made Rocky Road Squares with the guy next door, and they are delicious. That night I walked an hour to go down to the mall with him and a friend to see a movie. We only had a very slight idea of where it was and were walking very slowly. After the movie we played hearts, which is really a lot more fun than it might sound. I have played more cards, seen more movies, and walked more in this past week than I have in a long time.

Today is another do nothing today, but I was all responsible and stuff, and swept the floor, took out the garbage in my room and the recycling. Look at me!

I am now completely bored with myself and what I just wrote, so this is ending here.

I now have a hard hat and a pink tie! I am teh awesome.

These past two days have been very very long, but sooo much fun. The lunches have kind of sucked, since I'm not a fan of either lasagna or Chinese food, but at least it's been something to eat. Single & Sexy was HILARIOUS, they seriously need to get something like that going in high schools because then people might actually pay attention and get something out of it. I can't decide whether I liked the Engineering or the Math events better. Being shoved into a car while earning a hard hat was strangely fun, there was 2 guys and another girl in the trunk with me on top of everybody, I doubt I'll ever feel that close to those people ever again XD. The n+1 legged race was about n times more fun than regular three-legged races. And then there was meeting TOOL... that was insane. I'm surprised no one was bowing down worshiping the thing. But it's still all so great, EDCOM and all. It's so weird moving back and forth between Math and Engineering... in Eng it's all competitive and people will stand there shouting cheers at each other for like 20 minutes, both for their team and against the other team. Then we get over to Math and it's all happy and lovey-dovey. Math loves software! Software loves math! It's almost perfect for me, since I'm not entirely competitive nor entirely lovey either.

Haven't really gone to any of the big events at night, instead I've just hung out with the guys next door. They have cards and a tv, two things I don't have but wish I did. They have ice cream now too since we bought some last night and ate it while watching Return of the King. That is such a good movie.

Last night the two suite mates decided to do some cooking and made tons of food, they invited some people over and a few more that were wandering around stopped in for food too. While they were cooking though the smoke detector started going off! Those things must be really sensitive or something. We now know how to silence it though, which is a very good thing. We had one guy coming around asking where the weed was :P

So. ELPE in an hour-ish, I really need to get something to eat before I head over.

Sooooooo many people. But even out of those so many people, I managed to see one friend from back home for like a minute before he was lost in the crowd. I think I saw one of the SE guys too, and a girl that looked like someone I knew from school.

Tomorrow night I am DEFINITELY bringing a sweater along, it was freezing out there. And better shoes. And we have to get up so EARLY! I'm going to die before school really even begins :P

Met a few people on the floor, and I found out that there's another SE girl in the floor below me :D Plus one or 2 guys, and there's another guy on the 9th floor as well, according to the name tag on his door.

I guess I had better get some rest so I can meet MORE new people tomorrow.

WHAT DO YOU DRINK!?
WATER!
WHO'S YOUR DADDY!?
LOO!

Young grasshopper learns quickly :P

I should get some sleep now.

Stuff to take to university:

  • Suitcase full of pot

  • Cocaine

  • Heroin

  • Extra needles so we don't get each others diseases

  • Alcohol

  • More alcohol

  • Cigarettes

  • Condoms

  • Fake i.d. (to buy more alcohol and cigarettes)

I don't think I'm forgetting anything.....

Future Shop's dorm room challenge

That would be so much fun, if only to play with all the toys. It would be so weird though to live in a glass box in Toronto with all those people watching you. Sometimes I wish I lived there just so that I could see all these events that go on.

I can't seem to find any photos on th FS web site, but there are some here. This guy actually has some pretty cool photography in general. In June I went to Toronto with my World Issues class and it was neat to see some of the places that he had photographed, including this building. The owner was actually in there as we passed by, sitting at the computer wearing only a pair of shorts.

Just to be redundant, my mom just asked me what blogging was as she was reading in the paper about the hurricane. You can bet I turned the laptop screen over to her direction and pointed at what I was currently reading. "See!! This is a blog!! They're GREAT!!" And, to top it all off, I fired up the Livejournal page and showed her my own. "READ IT!! IT'S GREAT!!"

But in all seriousness and non-deludedness, it went more like the following.

To not seem overly intelligent like I know all too well what this term means, I thought for a minute and said "It's like this journal thing online that other people can see."

This concept didn't really seem to click in her mindset, so she shrugged and went on reading, and I loaded up LJ and wrote this.
